Hyenas: Creative Assembly introduces new shooter

With a cool trailer, Sega and Creative Assembly announce their brand new multiplayer sci-fi shooter Hyenas. In it we fight for a different kind of loot in a first-person view.

The official announcement trailer for Hyenas tells us exactly what that means. The game throws us into a motley comic book universe where we play the role of a scavenger trying to steal “priceless pop culture loot from the Martian billionaires and rival crews”. The said loot includes not only the iconic Rubik’s Cubes, but also Sonic the Hedgehog collectible figures or pastrami on rye that are still in good condition from the popular New York eatery Katz’s Delicatessen.

Pop culture fireworks: The setting of Hyenas

Creative Assembly, the developer who was already responsible for well-known titles such as Alien: Isolation or the Total War series, seems to be doing its best to ignite the pleasant tingling of the finest nineties nostalgia in us. In the official description of the title, we get a brief glimpse of what to expect at the end.

“Earth is gone, the rich have colonized Mars and the rest of humanity is living its worst life in The Taint, a vast orbiting slum. As humanity tries to survive, the Martian billionaires are more concerned about the Fulfilling their nostalgic dreams. Plunderships, giant retail spaceships selling salvaged pop culture artifacts from Earth, our artifacts, at top prices to fulfill their desires.”

And we already know more about the gameplay: fights in Hyenas should take place in zero gravity. It uses futuristic weapons and rather unconventional defenses, such as a kind of protective foam that can lock in your enemies or erect protective walls, which of course fly around. Release 2023 on consoles and PC

Sega and Creative Assembly make owners of the older generation of consoles happy, because Hyenas is not only available for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but also for PS4 and Xbox One. The title should also appear for the computer, only Nintendo Switch owners will get nothing. There is no concrete release date yet, but Sega has given the year 2023 as a period.
