Will Bobby Kotick remain CEO? Activision Blizzard shareholders have voted

The much-criticized Bobby Kotick was re-elected CEO of Activision Blizzard at a shareholder meeting.

Bobby Kotick remains CEO – but for how long?

From the Annual General Meeting documents of the company shows that the next term of office has been voted on. Despite the controversy and ongoing workplace harassment litigation, Kotick received more than 533,703,580 votes for his re-election. Only 62,597,199 voted against his re-election.

Kotick’s vote and re-election comes shortly after an internal investigation by the company’s board of directors found “no evidence” of executive ignorance of harassment. Nevertheless, many shareholders and employees are demanding the resignation of the newly elected CEO. The train has probably left for the time being with the re-election. Or?

A majority of votes will allow Kotick to remain in office for a further year – unless he resigns or is removed. As soon as the takeover of Microsoft is completed, this is actually possible, because Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, is supposed to take over here. The acquisition is expected to be completed in the first half of 2023.

More on Activision Blizzard’s acquisition by Microsoft:

In addition to re-electing Kotick, the board will also vote to produce a report to investigate harassment at the company. But even if shareholders vote for such a report, Activision Blizzard is still under no obligation to produce it.

Either way, Kotick’s renewed tenure as CEO is a slap in the face to anyone who hoped the man would be held accountable for all the bad things that are said to have happened at the company under his leadership. At least this decision sends an extremely questionable signal.
