Red Dead Revolver Remake: It looks better than RDR2 in Unreal Engine 5

from Jonathan Harsh
Since the official release of Unreal Engine 5, fans have had fun giving their favorite games a makeover. The latest contender is Rockstar’s Red Dead Revolver, which is suddenly prettier than Red Dead Redemption 2.

At the moment there are tons of mock-up trailers for old games that are getting a facelift with the Unreal Engine 5. The games are often not that old and the differences are accordingly less impressive. However, when you juxtapose a PS2-era game with a creation in the UE5, the title is almost unrecognizable. This also applies to Red Dead Revolver, the predecessor of the Red Dead Redemption sub-series. The TeaserPlay YouTube channel shows us what Rockstar’s western shooter could look like in 2022.

This is what Red Dead Revolver could look like in Unreal Engine 5

Red Dead Revolver was released in 2004 for the PlayStation 2 and the original Xbox. While the game wasn’t nearly as successful as later Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2, the franchise’s origins are held in high esteem by fans and are something of a cult classic, as the comments below the video attest.

Of course, this is just a trailer. Complete games developed in Unreal Engine 5 have to live with significantly more limitations as they simulate an entire game world at a constant framerate. Still, these UE5 videos are a way for gamers to watch their favorite games the way they used to.

For those who prefer a completely free-roaming open-world to Revolver’s level design, there’s also an Unreal Engine 5 trailer for Red Dead Redemption. With the new technology, the game from 2010 looks a bit better than the successor Red Dead Redemption 2, which was able to set new standards for open-world games when it was released.
