WoW Classic: Wrath of the Lich King is getting harder, Blizzard is making popular raids harder

WoW Classic Naxxramas

A raid in Wrath of the Lich King Classic will not be as easy as it used to be. Blizzard is making changes to raids in WoW Classic.

The Wrath of the Lich King beta has just started in WoW Classic, but the developers have already announced that they want to make some changes. So WotLK will not be exactly the way you know it from before. Some features, like the dungeon finder, won’t even exist. But you also want to make adjustments to the raids. The first raid from WotLK will be harder than it was back then: Naxxramas.

what was said The plans were discussed in the Wrath of the Lich King Classic developer update. So you had some thoughts about what you could change in WotLK Classic, such as a higher difficulty of the heroic dungeons or the same loot in 10 and 25 raids. However, neither will come. Instead, there will be an adjustment to Naxxramas. The raid gets harder.

What are the changes? Concrete changes have not yet been mentioned, but at least the general direction. Both the life points of the monsters in the raid and the damage they deal should be increased. In other words: fights last a little longer and it will happen more often that a few players die.

Why is Blizzard doing this? The answer to that is simple: Naxxramas was too easy at the time and even much easier than Blizzard intended. Therefore, the difficulty is increased. This not only makes the raid more interesting, but also extends the time a little until the next raid tier starts with Ulduar. Literally it says:

Our design intent for [Naxxramas in] 2008 was about making it a little easier than the 2006 original. But we overdid it and made it a lot easier than we had planned. The slight increase in difficulty will make for more exciting and interesting challenges […]

In fact, the Naxxramas was present in Wrath of the Lich King for two main reasons. First, Blizzard didn’t have to create a whole new raid and could just copy-paste it, and second, only a fraction of players had experienced Naxxramas in the original WoW before The Burning Crusade expansion launched.

What about “No Changes”? No matter what changes are made to WoW Classic, there are always a few players who hope for a purist experience and rate every change as negative.

But Blizzard has long since deviated from that and seems to make compromises from time to time when they are conducive to the enjoyment of the larger crowd. The adjustments to Naxxramas appear to be one of those changes.

What do you think of Naxxramas getting harder? A good thing? Or should Blizzard just stay away from balancing?
