gamescom 2022: Why are so many publishers canceling and would we still go to the fair privately?

gamescom 2022: Why are so many publishers canceling and would we still go to the fair privately?

Gamescom really doesn’t have it easy this year. Many major publishers such as Sony, Activision Blizzard, Wargaming, Take-Two and Nintendo have already officially canceled while ticket prices have increased significantly. Is gamescom worth it for visitors this year? For many yes, because there are still enough exhibitors on site. Not only the indie studios, but also larger publishers such as THQ Nordic, Bandai Namco, Assemble Entertainment, SEGA or Koch Media with Deep Silver and Prime Matter, among others, still take place at the fair. And finally, gamescom is a gaming event that can take place again after a long time – maybe a reason to meet old acquaintances. But another question came to mind:

Martin, Alex and both Benjamins discuss whether the Gamescom concept still works regardless of the pandemic. Is the concept of live events simply outdated due to the mass of live streams, presentations and publishers’ own marketing? What other trade fairs are also more exciting than gamescom? The four speakers in today’s video clarify these questions and many more. And no matter which assumptions we make, one thing can definitely be said: we are in a transition.

Or how do you see it? Has gamescom changed for you in the last few years for the better or for the worse?
