Apple is working on a new HomePod with an S8 chip for 2023

Apparently, Apple is currently working on a successor to the original HomePod. The smart speaker is said to have an S8 chip and will appear as early as 2023.

Apple hasn’t produced the original HomePod from 2018 for a long time. If you are looking for a smart speaker from Apple, you have to use the small, round HomePod mini. For 2023, however, Apple is now planning to relaunch the original HomePod. As Bloomberg journalist and Apple connoisseur Mark Gurman wrote in the current issue of its newsletter reported that the smart speaker is to be equipped with an S8 chip. This should also be used in the upcoming Apple Watch Series 8.

More power and sound quality on par with the original

The original HomePod from 2018 uses an A8 chip. It is still unclear what differences the S8 chip will bring apart from better performance. As Gurman writes, the S8 chip should offer the same specifications as the older S6 processor. This is around 20 percent faster than the S5 chip used in the HomePod mini. In addition to the faster processor, the successor to the original HomePod is said to offer other advantages over the HomePod mini.

Due to its cylindrical shape and size, the new HomePod is said to offer sound quality similar to the original. In addition, Apple is said to have revised the display on the top, it is said to support multi-touch gestures.

How expensive will the new HomePod be?

Mark Gurman does not provide information on the price of the HomePod remake. Apple will probably base its price on the price of the first HomePod. This cost 349 euros for the release in Germany. However, it is also conceivable that Apple will offer the new HomePod cheaper than the original, since the competition in the smart speaker sector is now significantly stronger than a few years ago.
