Zachtronics: The shop will be closed at the end of 2022

Zachtronics (Unternehmen) von

The US indie studio Zachtronics – known and popular for its often clever puzzle games about chemical elements, programming or automation – will be dissolved at the end of the year. Of their own accord.

72, 84, 86, 87 and even 90. That’s how many fun points Zachtronics scored in their tests on 4Players.de. It was usually our Zachtronics expert Ben who bit his teeth into the mechanics of the unusual titles – for example the “noble alchemy kit” Opus Magnum (click here for the test), the captivating production plant construction Infinifactory (its test can be found here) or finally the platinum duster Shenzhen I/O (what’s hidden here?).

Goodbye of my own free will

The end of the year should now be over – not because a publisher turns off the money tap or the manageable large but loyal clientele has turned away. Instead, founder Zach Barth reveals this in the Conversation with Kotakubecause they think it’s the right move. Next month will be Zachtronic’s last major project, the Last Call BBS programming minigame collection (which is included with Game Pass for PC, by the way), and it’ll be over by the end of the year. And that, according to Barth, “feels pretty good”.

The team will disintegrate – everyone has different ideas and interests and an individual level of willingness to take risks. Zack Barth himself may want to work as a computer science teacher in the future and is happy about the many expressions of gratitude from players who have found their way to programming through the Zachtronics titles.
