Sam Naffziger, senior vice president of AMD, made this prediction in the conversation with Tom’s hardware. Anyone who has followed the development of graphics cards in recent years should have noticed a continuous increase in price. That alone should be a major annoyance for anyone with a gaming PC. In addition, the power consumption will increase because the increased performance logically requires more energy.

AMD and NVIDIA: Up to 600 watts of power consumption?

According to Naffziger, this is due to the manufacturing process for the graphics chips. Overall, this is not yet efficient enough and the switch to better methods is being delayed. In the recent past, the competition from NVIDIA in particular has accepted a sharp increase in power consumption in order to be able to offer good performance.

AMD could soon follow suit in order to remain competitive. However, Naffziger promises that they will not turn the power consumption screw as much as elsewhere, since they will achieve significantly more performance per watt.

Nevertheless: According to the report, graphics cards from NVIDIA and AMD could soon come onto the market, which according to the first rumors consume 450 watts of electricity and could possibly even reach values ​​of up to 600 watts.
