The network specialist Synology has launched a new 5-bay NAS with the DS1522+? What do enthusiasts and small businesses get for 760 euros?
On June 29th, the Synology DS1522+, the new NAS from the home server experts from Taipei, Taiwan, was released. The introductory price for the 5-bay NAS starts at around 760 euros in online shops. For the higher price, enthusiasts and small businesses get a central data storage and application server with five hard drive slots. With two USB 3.2 (Gen1) and eSATA ports each, up to ten additional data carriers or devices such as cameras can be connected with optional accessories. Four 1 Gigabit ports connect to the network. An extension to 10 gigabit support per module is also optionally possible.
An “AMD Ryzen R1600 Embedded” SoC is installed for the right performance for data transfers, virtualization, monitoring and other applications. The dual core with four threads gets support from 8 GB of DDR4 ECC RAM, which can be expanded up to 32 GB. The entrances for this are easily accessible via the drive bay. In addition, you can reach connections for two M.2 NVMe SSDs on the underside, which support the SSD cache for reading and writing.
Synology states a maximum data throughput for reading and writing of 736 and 796 MB/s. Of course, there is full support for the Synology DiskStation Manager operating system, which enables a wide range of apps and applications for, for example, file and photo management, data protection, virtualization and video surveillance. In addition to the optional expansion of the network speed (E10G22-T1-Mini module), a total of up to 15 hard disks can be operated with two expansion units (517).
The Synology DS1522+ is available from 753 euros, among other things cyberport and notebooks cheaper listed from 753 euros plus shipping costs. However, a delivery date has not yet been specified. More information about Synology DS1522+ can be found at the manufacturer.
