This is what PSVR 2 looks like: A first picture shows the new PlayStation VR glasses

Behold: the first image of a PlayStation VR 2 has surfaced outside of the usual promotional environment. An independent developer has released the snapshot of the new headset.

The internet never forgets

Bit Planet Games is the name of the Texas and Philippines-based studio that shared the PSVR 2 image on social media yesterday. “Guess what’s coming for PSVR2?” the studio wrote.

It makes you wonder if the studio was even allowed to share the first image of a PlayStation VR 2 in the wild. After all, that’s exactly what embargoes are for. That’s exactly what a user asked and got an answer right away. “If we had published this photo 6 months ago, you would be right”, so the studio.

Nevertheless, the picture has since been removed from Twitter. Did Sony hit the developer on the finger after all? Unfortunately, there is no reason for the removal of the picture. Luckily for all curious VR fans, a user shared the image on Reddit in mirrored form.

So now we’ve seen the new VR glasses for the first time in a realistic scenario – on a massive desk chair. Since January 2022 we have also known the technical data and the name of the VR2 Sense controllers. Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Call of the Mountain is the first confirmed game for the VR set. A total of 20 titles should be available for the release.

The PSVR successor is said to offer 4K HDR, a 110-degree field of view and foveated rendering with eye tracking. There is also an OLED display with a resolution of 2000×2040 per eye and refresh rates between 90 and 120 Hz.
