Production of the iPhone 14: Foxconn attracts new workers with bonuses

from Alexander Ney
To prepare for production of the iPhone 14, plastics maker Foxconn has offered a 9,000 yuan (about $1,300) bonus to new line workers who stay with the company more than four months after being hired at the factory in Zhengzhou, China.

Every year again: like recently South China Morning Post reported, Chinese plastics maker Foxconn has begun seasonal hiring to prepare for iPhone 14 production. Apple suppliers are said to have started shipping components for the iPhone 14 to manufacturers like Foxconn for final assembly. Foxconn is again offering a bonus of 9,000 yuan (about US$1,300) to new assembly line workers if they stay more than four months after being hired at the company’s Zhengzhou factory.

Improved 48 megapixel lens

Key new features suspected for the iPhone 14 Pro models include a pill-shaped cutout and a hole that houses the face recognition sensors as well as the front camera. A faster A16 chip, an improved 48-megapixel lens for the rear camera (with support for 8K video recording) and an always-on display are also expected. The latter shows the time, date and the new iOS 16 lock screen widgets.

The new lineup is rumored to include a 6.1-inch iPhone 14, a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. The two Pro models are expected to get many new features, while the two lower-priced models could see fewer changes. However, the entire iPhone 14 range could have in common the improved front camera with autofocus, longer battery life and support for Wi-Fi 6E.
