Star Wars by Taika Waititi: still no green light for the film?

That Director Taika Waititi is to make a Star Wars film has been known for a good two years now. It’s more than just a rumor as the news came from the official Star Wars Twitter account and by extension Disney highly personal. Since then, not much has happened: Waititi regularly affirms that he is still in the writing process.

If the Star Wars movie of Waititi should not be a top priority, the sluggish progress would not be surprising: With the on July 8th With Thor: Love and Thunder coming to cinemas, the New Zealand director had his hands full with a gigantic Marvel project. At least that’s what Waititi suggested in a recent one interview with the New York Times on: “I’m trying to write down the Star Wars idea right now. I’ll have to see how it goes because once I submit it, that could dictate when the film gets made or even if it gets made at all.”

Whether the film will actually be produced seems to depend on Waititi’s ideas and the finished script. The Oscar-winning director seems to take it easy, because after his work on Thor: Love and Thunder he could use a break anyway: “I wouldn’t have a problem taking six months off and relaxing with my kids either.”
