Fritz Meinecke should better distance himself from this application

This comes from Willi H., who is on his channel UrlagEntertainments uploaded a nearly eight-minute video of him going on an expedition with equipment used in 1922. The reactions of the viewers in Fritz Meinecke’s live stream to this video spoke quite clearly. 87 percent would like to see the young man as the seventh contestant in the second season of 7 vs. Wild.

So far it is unclear whether Fritz Meinecke will follow his community’s request. The deadline for the application (June 30, 2022) has meanwhile passed, which is why a decision should not be long in coming. However, should the outdoor expert choose Willi H. as a participant, this could damage the otherwise very positive image of the format beyond the bubble. But why?

Folk festival with Nazi symbolism

We received information from a reader that Willi H. was killed in 2016 by the Display of Nazi symbolism at a parade in the Saxon village Colmnitz hit the headlines for the first time. At that time, numerous large sites such as n-tv, Zeit Online, Focus, the Tagesspiegel and others reported on the small town in Saxon Switzerland.

A parade took place on May 29, 2016 to celebrate the first mention of the community in 1346. The Wehrmacht and the swastika were also there.

The organizer of the “School and Homeland Festival” was Heimatverein Colmnitz e. V. One participant wore a Wehrmacht uniform a suitcase with a swastika. Other participants were also traveling in camouflage-colored vehicles with dummy machine guns attached.

After the topic was picked up by the media and caused all sorts of indignation among the population, the police finally began investigating the suspected use of license plates from unconstitutional organizations.

In this context, the Leipziger Internet-Zeitung refers to the fact that the most well-known inhabitant of Colmnitz at the time was a high-ranking SS leader. Horst Böhme is considered to be partly responsible for the massacre and the destruction of the Czech city Lidice 1942, in which 184 people were shot. Almost 200 women were taken to concentration camps and their children to resettlement camps.

The case ended with the man with the suitcase being exonerated by investigations by the public prosecutor, since the swastika “not punishable in connection with the historical parade” has been. However, the whole topic left a stale aftertaste. A spokesman for the public prosecutor emphasized that the legal assessment of the parade “no free pass‘ for appearances by friends of military technology. “We will examine each individual case.”

Already at the Day of Saxony 2012 in Freiberg there was trouble because of the “Military Technology Friends of Saxony” in Wehrmacht uniforms. Since then, at least in Freiberg, “everything military from the period between 1933 and 1990 is forbidden – regardless of whether it was Wehrmacht, Russian or NVA.”

Willie H., which can be clearly seen in one of the picturesaccording to information from the SZ, belongs to a group of “loosely organized military technology friends” on. They wanted to depict the Second World War with vehicles and in uniforms.

The home club in Colmnitz distanced itself “clear from the behavior of the actors of the historical picture”. These have through the use of symbolism “publicly discredited the entire parade”as stated in a statement a few days later.

That was the end of the topic for the time being, but this case should have shown that such sensitive topics should be dealt with as responsibly as possible. Mainly because xenophobic incidents in Saxony in recent years have caused alarm and indignation. In 2015, for example, a right-wing terrorist group carried out attacks on refugee accommodation in Freital. Against this background, parades in which Wehrmacht uniforms are worn should not be allowed in the first place.

So it remains at least questionable whether Fritz Meinecke is a person like Willi H., who goes around in his free time in a Wehrmacht uniform with a swastika suitcase, or short films about the Second World War like this producedwants to provide such a large stage that the second season of 7 vs. Wild is bound to present.
