Silent Wings 4: Be Quiet promises new highs in airflow and pressure

from Norman Wittkopf
Be Quiet completes the launch of its new high-end Silent Wings 4 series fans along with Pro offshoots that are said to feature significant improvements.

According to the announcement, Be Quiet has developed the new Silent Wings 4 models specifically with a focus on improving static pressure, which should primarily benefit use in connection with CPU coolers and radiators. Compared to the Silent Wings 3 series, the fan blades should now have a different shape and also have a smaller distance between the fan blade and the frame, which has therefore been reduced from 1.2 to 1 millimeter.

For better flow behavior, the new 120 and 140 millimeter fans now have a funnel-shaped air outlet, which is intended to effectively ensure that the air is distributed over a larger area. According to the press release, these changes have “resulted in a drastic improvement in static pressure while maintaining low operating noise”.

With regard to the mounting options, there are two different mounting brackets included in the scope of delivery, either with rubber pins for decoupled mounting or for classic screwing. The corners should be easy to replace without tools. Visually, meanwhile, new stickers are being used that show the black manufacturer’s logo on a black background. The following manufacturer video also provides an outlook:

For cases and coolers

With regard to the area of application, Be Quiet recommends using the regular PWM models with their maximum speeds of 1,600 rpm (120 mm) and 1,100 rpm (140 mm) as case fans, while the PWM high-speed versions with higher speeds of 2,500 rpm and 1,900 rpm should be used on heat sinks and radiators. All models rely on a 6-pole, three-phase fan motor and a fluid dynamic bearing with a service life of up to 300,000 hours.

Pro models and prices

With Silent Wings Pro 4 there are also other variants to choose from, which have the same improvements as the Silent Wings 4, but offer a little more. Here, the maximum RPM has been increased to 3,000 RPM on the 120mm version and 2,400 RPM on the 140mm model, while also featuring a rear-mounted RPM switch with Medium, High-Speed and Ultra-High settings -Speed for different requirements there.

In addition, the Pro models have an additional mounting option for extra tight mounting on radiators to prevent air leaks, as well as sleeved cables and an easier-to-grip mainboard connector. In the PCGH price comparison, the new fans are already listed between 23.90 euros and 31.90 eurosbut are not available immediately.
