Elden Ring should be more successful than Call of Duty

After 3000 attempts: Player defeats Malenia in Elden Ring

As Gamesindustry.biz reports, From Software’s Elden Ring could be the best-selling game in the United States in 2022. At least that’s what NPD’s Mat Piscatella speculates. If that’s true, the Elden Ring would have sold more than this year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Since 2009, there have only been two times when Call of Duty didn’t top the list, with Grand Theft Auto 5 in 2013 and Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018.

Elden Ring more popular than Call of Duty?

We already know that Elden Ring has sold extremely well. In May of this year, the title wandered over the (digital) counter more than 13 million times, and has already sold more than Call of Duty: Vanguard when it was released. Modern Warfare 2 is slated for release in October this year, so it doesn’t look too unlikely that Elden Ring will be able to secure the place at the top.

Of course, that would be an impressive feat from From Software and Bandai Namco, given that it’s not often that a game comes close to, or even surpasses, Call of Duty’s sales numbers. It will be exciting to see how often the first DLC for Elden Ring will sell and whether the game can possibly increase its sales figures significantly again.
