No FIFA at gamescom 2022: EA cancels the fair

Electronic Arts is officially not at gamescom 2022.

Electronic Arts is officially not at gamescom 2022.

Gamescom 2022 in August is getting closer, which means that the number of acceptances and cancellations for the hybrid trade fair is also increasing. Microsoft announced its participation just a few hours ago, but with Electronic Arts we are now losing another major exhibitor who usually has games like FIFA, Need of Speed and Battlefield in their luggage.

In a way, gamescom is actually a home game for Electronic Arts, since the US company has a branch in Cologne. In 2022, however, the developer and publisher will not occupy any of the otherwise largest exhibition areas, but will stay away from the fair completely. The confirmed EA on request from gameseconomy:

We will not participate in Gamescom 2022. However, players will have a wealth of opportunities to experience new EA games and content through dedicated live streams and events throughout the year. We appreciate that we were able to welcome so many players to Germany at the past trade fairs and wish the game (the local industry association, editor’s note) and KoelnMesse a great event this year.

EA did not provide a reason, but GamesWirtschaft rightly assumes that EA simply lacks material about games to show them. It’s not just that the games planned for 2022 will be FIFA 23 and need for speed still have no fixed release dates, and news about titles like the Dead Space Remake are still waiting until 2023, although there was at least something to see about this:
