Red Dead Online is dead, Rockstar confirms - GTA 6 takes center stage

Going forward, don’t expect too much from Red Dead Online.

Like Rockstar Games in a new one community update has confirmed, development work on Red Dead Online will be scaled back while the studio focuses more on Grand Theft Auto 6.

No more new content

“Over the past several years, our team has increasingly devoted development resources to the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, recognizing the fact that more than ever we are exceeding player expectations in everything we do and with have to offer the best possible experience for the next part,” it says. “In this context, there is support from Red Dead Online regarding some changes.”

Going forward, the focus will be on improving existing modes rather than introducing new ones or delivering other big updates.

More Red Dead Online news:

“Both new and experienced players will engage in this large and diverse world with a wealth of activities such as special roles, story-driven co-op missions, competitive showdown modes and much more. Monthly events in Red Dead Online will continue to bring these unique expansions into the spotlight so players of all skill levels can experience all that the frontier has to offer.”

“Alongside seasonal events and general gameplay improvements – as well as other changes to ensure a positive gaming environment in Red Dead Online in the future – we want to build on existing modes this year and provide new Telegram missions instead of as in previous years to release major content updates. We will continue to spotlight the creative highlights of the Red Dead community on the Newswire and beyond at every opportunity.”

We would like to thank the community once again for their continued support. We’re really grateful for the constructive feedback we’ve received so far, and hope you continue to provide us with your feedback. It’s incredibly valuable and helpful to the continued success of both GTA Online and Red Dead Online, and is an integral part of what drives us as we strive to continue to build bigger and better projects.”

In the past, fans have repeatedly criticized Rockstar Games for supporting Red Dead Online. In the run-up to the new community update, fans are even planning a funeral service for the game next week. Not without reason, as it now shows.
