Content aspects of Skull and Bones – Questionable first impressions

The principle of the game is not unknown: As an outsider, the player has to work his way up to become a pirate leader. You can do this by building your reputation through naval battles and exploration. From accepting contracts and gathering resources to navigating important trade routes and attacking wealthy merchant ships, decisions have an impact on the further course of the game, according to Ubisoft. As reputation increases, the fleet can be expanded and customized while unlocking a variety of items.

The multiplayer element also offers the possibility to form an alliance with up to two other players or to compete against each other in PvP. Skull and Bones will be supplemented over several years with new content, activities, stories and challenges that will be free for all players. In addition to the standard edition, there will also be a premium edition of Skull and Bones, which should come up with a lot of additional content. After looking at the gameplay reveal, the website Eurogamer has already allowed itself a first conclusion about Skull and Bones and states that the pirate multiplayer adventure looks good, is fun and that it has found its own pirate niche to be filled. However, the limited scope and ambition of the game should also catch the eye, considering that the game will be released several years later than planned and Ubisoft has promised “something bigger”. According to Eurogamer, the pirate game still looks the way it was presented five years ago at the Gameplay Reveal. The end of 2022 will show whether and how well Skull and Bones ultimately delivers.
