Suitable for Thor 4: You have to read these comics with the MCU hero!
Since July 6, 2022, things have been divine again in the cinema: Thor experiences his new adventure in Thor 4: Love and Thunder. The bombastic action festival by Taika Waititi (also director for Thor: Ragnarok) entices like its predecessor with a mixture of humor, action and drama – everything a modern blockbuster should have! But if you don’t want to limit yourself to the screen, we have some Thor comics that are perfect for going to the cinema. After all, these form the basic framework on which the MCU films are built.
You should read these Thor comics!
- Perfect for Love and Thunder’s “Thor: God of Thunder Deluxe: Vol. 1: Godslayer”. Because in this volume the saga begins around Gorr, who lynches his way through the pantheons of the cosmos. In the film he is played by Christian Bale. With fantastic artwork and an incredibly gripping story, this comic is a must-read.
- Those who are particularly interested in the female version of Thor, who also plays a crucial role in Love and Thunder. buy yourself “Thor: Goddess of Thunder: Vol. 1”to learn more about this unique storyline.
- If you liked the reunion with the Guardians in the Love and Thunder trailer, we have to disappoint you: Thor never has anything to do with the GotG in the comics. BUT we still have something for you: The Alien Beta Ray Bill has also emerged as a worthy wielder of Mjolnir in the comics. He later wields his own name, Stormbreaker (which Thor uses in the MCU). And this character is part of the new Guardians of the Galaxy! So get yourself “Guardians of the Galaxy – Reboot: Vol. 1: The New Guardians”if you’re into Thor+GotG – also featuring the cosmic Ghost Rider and the mighty Richard “Nova” Rider.
- Away from Thor, but definitely god-themed, we recommend you “Guardians of the Galaxy by Al Ewing Vol. 1: Then It’s Us”. In this, the Guardians of the Galaxy (appear in Thor 4) clash with the gods of Olympus (also appear in Thor 4!). The Olympians have returned and are determined to claim their place in the cosmos again – a great confrontation awaits you!
- Due to the events of Thor: Ragnarok, the Asgardians must plant a new Asgard on Earth – and that’s how it was in the comics too. According to another kind of Ragnarok, the Asgardians live in a floating city over Oklahoma! There’s a lot more mortal interactions than before – do you think that’s interesting? Then get the Thor comics by J. Michael Straczynski!
Have we missed any great comics to read before Thor 4: Love and Thunder? Which volumes still have to be on the list? Write us in the comments, we are curious!
