Blizzard has finally uninstalled Heroes of the Storm

30 years of Blizzard: the company celebrates with an anniversary video and annoys fans

While Blizzard’s MOBA Heroes of the Storm didn’t quite make the waves like League of Legends or even DOTA 2, the title had a dedicated player base that kept the MOBA alive. Unfortunately, Blizzard was probably not enough, which is why the company withdrew part of the development team from the project in 2018 and discontinued the e-sports event Heroes Global Championship.

Heroes of the Storm will not receive any further content updates

Development on Heroes of the Storm still continued, but at a much slower pace. A few heroes continued to be released, such as Mei from Overwatch, and a few in-game events also took place. However, this is now coming to an end, because like Blizzard in a new one blog post about Heroes of the Storm, there will be no further content updates in the future. Instead, the company is now treating its MOBA like StarCraft 2, for example, releasing only balance updates and bug fixes. New heroes, items for the shop, and the like should no longer be developed.

The shop will also continue in its current form, so players can still purchase new heroes and the previously released cosmetic items. By the way, in 2019 the real money loot boxes were removed from the game. These can now only be purchased via the in-game currency.

It’s quite a pity to see that such a beloved game as Heroes of the Storm (buy now €9.90) has now been discontinued. While there are quite a few MOBAS on the market, very few can truly compete with League of Legends, and even fewer bring gameplay elements as innovative as Heroes of the Storm. The game will continue to exist, but will probably now simply be forgotten.
