PS Plus: Most of you wouldn’t have needed Premium and Extra

Für welche PS Plus-Variante werdet ihr euch entscheiden?

We wanted to know from you which PS Plus plan you ended up choosing.

The revised PS Plus service has also been available in Germany since June 23 and lets you choose between three models: PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium. After the changeover, we therefore wanted to know from you in a survey which subscription you ultimately chose. While the result is similar to the poll shortly after the announcement, a few of you have changed your mind.

These are the three new PS Plus tariffs:

  • PS Plus Essential (8.99 euros per month)
  • PS Plus Extra (13.99 euros per month)
  • PS Plus premium (16.99 euros per month)

You can read about the advantages of each subscription model in our large PS Plus overview:

Now that the exact games for PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium are known with the release in Germany, this should have caused some of you to rethink. At least that shows our result of the survey, in which we wanted to know from you which PS Plus tariff you have now decided on after the changeover.

Half of you are fine with the old PS Plus

  • 1st place: Essential with 1,470 votes (50%)
  • Place 2: Premium with 819 votes (28%)
  • Place 3: Extra with 628 votes (22%)

Total votes: 2,917 (as of Jul 11 @ 9:16am)

After the announcement of the PS Plus switch, we asked you which tariff was your temporary favorite. As it turns out, the “old” PS Plus is still your top priority with Essential. The PS Plus basic equipment is enough for half of you: monthly “free” games, discounts, cloud storage and access to online multiplayer.

However, Essential has lost some votes. Nothing has changed in the placement of Extra and Premium either, but knowing which games are available in the German catalogs seems to have been the decisive factor for some of you to spend more money.

We have summarized for you which titles you can play with PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium:

One of your most common responses in the comments as to why so many of you stay with Essential is this oversupply and yours big backlog. GamePro user zyan84 even includes subscription services for films and series:

Essential! I have all consoles and therefore far too much to gamble with. I’m canceling subscriptions anyway. Netflix = cancelled, Gamepass = cancelled, Amazon Prime and Ps+ are the only active subscriptions. The oversupply of digital content that was suddenly available and the constant exchange of it stressed me out more than it was of any use to me.

Or you can stay with Essential and only upgrade for a short time when needed, like KoZ might do:

Essential. maybe I’ll upgrade for a period x to catch up on one or the other older game, but other than that, browsing through the (mMn confusing) catalog didn’t appeal to me too much.

Also, many of you just aren’t interested in game trials and older PlayStation games. But for others, including Silent_Hillage, that’s the appeal of Extra or Premium:

Shadowrider91, on the other hand, uses Premium to get away from purchases entirely:

Premium because I don’t buy games anymore. Subscribe now. I have no problem not owning games from Day One onwards.

Small help: By the way, in this article we have broken down how you can stream the games on the PC with PS Plus Premium and play them with a PS4 controller. Fed up with PS Plus instead? Then we will be happy to explain how you can turn off automatic renewal and cancel your subscription.
