EA removes hated shop currency, gives away DLCs for Bioware games
Those responsible at Electronic Arts are finally pulling the plug on a hated shop currency: the Bioware Points. For these, there used to be DLCs for RPGs like Mass Effect and Dragon Age at salty prices (and never on sale). Those DLCs are now being made available for free!
While Electronic Arts often catches gamers’ resentments and has been named “Worst Company in America” multiple times, there are days when they actually put a smile on gamers’ faces. One of those is today if you’re interested in Bioware hits like Mass Effect and Dragon Age. Because soon there will finally be an end to the shop currency “Bioware Points”, which is hated by many. It will be abolished in October 2022 – and a lot of DLCs are now available for free that previously cost Bioware Points.

Bioware Points Disappear – Good Riddance!
This information comes from a newsletter from EA that a user shared on reddit.com/r/games. In it, the members of the EA team explain that Bioware Points will be removed as a shop currency in the Origin Store on October 11, 2022.
What was so bad about Bioware Points? Instead of simply being able to buy DLCs for various Bioware games, you previously had to buy Bioware Points. These were only available in bundles, so you’d be happy to either have too little or too much of this currency. A problem that is known from many online games, but less so from single-player games. On top of that, the associated content was never part of a sale.
Which Bioware games have DLCs for free now?
Various DLCs for the following Bioware games have now become free – you no longer have to spend Bioware Points on them. Not all of them are affected, though, in case you’re wondering why you’re still finding DLCs that cost money:
- Dragon Age: Origins
- Dragon Age 2
- Mass Effect 2
- Mass Effect 3
However, there is one exception, which also makes sense: multiplayer packages from the – still well-attended – multiplayer mode of Mass Effect 3. From October 11, 2022 you can only get these loot boxes with weapons, characters and upgrades Get credits that you have earned ingame. We can warmly recommend the multiplayer games, especially since the coop mode is missing in the Legendary Edition. Why?
What do you think of this action by Electronics Arts? Cool thing that makes it easier for some to get into the older RPGs? Or an empty and far too late gesture that hardly matters given the release of Mass Effect’s Legendary Edition? Write us your thoughts in the comments.
