PlayStation 5: PlayStation Stars rewards program introduced

With PlayStation Stars, Sony will be offering its own loyalty program in the future, similar to Microsoft Rewards.

PlayStation Stars, a new loyalty program for PlayStation players, was launched today.

Similar to Microsoft Rewards, the free-for-member program earns players points for completing campaigns and activities on their console.

There are already bonuses for playing any game, but also for winners of campaign tournaments or winning trophies.

A blog article says:

“Once you become a member, you earn rewards by completing a variety of campaigns and activities. Our Monthly Check-In campaign simply requires you to play any game to earn a bounty, while other campaigns require you to win tournaments, earn certain trophies, or even be the first player to win a blockbuster title earned a platinum trophy in your local time zone.”

Players can exchange the earned loyalty points for PSN credit or for products from a catalog in the PlayStation Store. Registered PlayStation Plus members will also earn points when they make purchases in the store.

The program also introduced digital collectibles as a new type of reward. These collectibles are “digital renderings of things PlayStation fans love, including figurines of popular and iconic characters from games and other entertainment formats, as well as cherished devices that reflect Sony’s history of innovation,” according to the description.

According to Sony’s Grace Chen, anyone who immediately thinks of NFTs when they think of digital collectibles is wrong. Like her in the Washington Post said, these are definitely not NFTs. They cannot be traded or sold. No blockchain technology is used either.

The PlayStation Stars loyalty program is scheduled to launch later this year.
