Takashi Iizuka supposedly knows what's next after Sonic Frontiers

In Sonic Frontiers, fans will experience the new “Open Zone” concept. What will the leader of the Sonic team, Takashi Iizuka, come up with for the sequel to the upcoming adventure?

Iizuka plans far ahead

That’s exactly what I wanted Game Informer about the Iizuka and asked him if he had any idea what the next Sonic game would be like. His answer was, “Yes.” However, he cannot make any concrete statements at this point in time.

So we don’t know if the title will be a 2D or 3D title after Sonic Frontiers, or if Iizuka is planning a direct sequel or a standalone project.

Also opposite Venture beat Iizuka has spoken about his plans for the Sonic franchise. Here he explained that the upcoming games prepare Sonic for the future.

“We really wanted to think about where we need to take Sonic in the next 10 years. What kind of gameplay do we need to develop to get people excited about the future?”

“Sonic Frontiers is the next step for the next 10 years. We hope the fans believe in us and that they enjoy what we show them. We look forward to when they can play it and really understand what it’s about goes.”

Iizuka also said that the Sonic Adventure series could possibly return “one day”.
