Bioware is making old Mass Effect and Dragon Age DLC free, but don’t rejoice too soon

Unfortunately, the DLCs for Dragon Age: Inquisition are not made freely accessible.

Dragon Age and Mass Effect fans from the very beginning can be happy: BioWare is finally stamping the so-called BioWare points. This means that you can now access some old DLCs completely free of charge, at least for a short time. However, this good news comes with some bad news. The free DLCs are not available for newer titles such as Dragon Age: Inquisition. Unfortunately, you still have to buy them.

BioWare is finally saying goodbye to the BioWare Points

What are BioWare Points? BioWare points were a proprietary currency introduced to PC in the early days of EA’s Origin Store. You could buy these points and then spend them on in-game content in BioWare games. However, the currency was no longer used in the somewhat newer games.

This changes now: The BioWare currency will be completely abolished. If you still have points left, you can spend them on multiplayer packages exclusively in Mass Effect 3 if necessary – at least for a short time. This option is only available until October 11th. Otherwise, however, all DLCs that you could once buy with BioWare Points are free (via: Reddit).

These DLCs are now free:

You read that right: Unfortunately, that doesn’t include any of BioWare’s newer games. And “newer” in this case also means Dragon Age: Inquisition, which was released in 2014 for PS3 and Xbox 360. If you were hoping to finally catch up on the DLCs to prepare for Dragon Age 4, we have to disappoint you. Also in Anthem and Mass Effect Andromeda there were already no more BioWare points and accordingly there is now nothing for free in these games.

Speaking of which: Here you can watch the first teaser for the upcoming Dragon Age: Dreadwolf:

With regard to the DLCs of Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, the whole thing should only cause a few jumps for joy, because of course the remaster in the form of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition has long since appeared. It contains most of the DLC for all three parts anyway. Basically, only those who only know Dragon Age 1 and 2 without the extensions should be happy about the free DLC. But at least: The Dragon Age Origins: Awakening DLC is definitely worth it.

Do you still have BioWare points? Do you already know all the DLCs?
