Nvidia chipset Nforce 2 and Amazon.commt – this happened on July 16th. Every day, PC Games Hardware takes a look back at the young but eventful history of the computer.

…1995: Offering every product on this planet is the goal of the online retailer that opened its virtual doors on July 16, 1995: Amazon.com. The company initially only sells books, but is gradually expanding its range, also with the help of other retailers who find a sales platform on the Amazon website via the “Marketplace”. Amazon is growing slowly but steadily; In the first few years, the retailer didn’t make any profits, but thanks to a solid business model it survived the great dot.com death – and by building online shops in many other countries it became the largest online retailer in the world.

…1997: With DirectX 5, Microsoft is releasing the first version of its multimedia interface, which is at least somewhat popular with developers. However, not with this version 5.0 released on July 16th, which also runs on Windows NT machines, but with DirectX 5.2, which was added almost a year later and which only runs on PCs with DOS-based Windows 95/8, which are more interesting for gamers /ME operating system is running. … 2002: For the graphics specialist Nvidia, the first Nforce was a successful debut on the market for mainboard chipsets. However, the Nforce only gained the reputation of being the fastest Athlon chipset in its second incarnation, which was presented on July 16, 2002: the Nforce 2 aka Crush 18. The Nforce 2 supported practically everything that was current at the time, such as AGP 8x, USB 2.0 and, for the first time, two-channel DDR400 RAM. However, they are particularly proud of the IGP model, which has an integrated Geforce 4 MX graphics core that is faster than all other integrated graphics solutions. While Nvidia still lacks the license for an Intel version of the chipset, the Nforce 2 will soon become the first choice for AMD-based computers. The close partnership between Nvidia and AMD can already be seen at the presentation of the second Nforce generation: There the chairmen of both companies climb onto the stage together. They are not competitors yet.
