Streaming giant wants to be acquired by Microsoft, according to analyst

The streaming giant Netflix recently entered into a partnership with the Microsoft group to promote an advertising-financed streaming service.

However, one analyst has questioned the timeline for that deal, claiming there was more to it than that.

Laura Martin, senior analyst at Needham, told Yahoo Finance that Netflix is looking for a way out and in the long run it may be looking to be acquired by Microsoft.

In their view, there would be no other company that Netflix would partner with and be able to make a $100 billion purchase. Neither due to financial constraints nor regulatory problems.

Netflix is said to be approaching Microsoft so that it can be bought out once the mega deal with Activision has gone through.

The analyst also questions the timing because Netflix lacks experience in the advertising business.

For an advertising-financed Netflix, the provider will probably have to accept a delay. According to Martin, Microsoft would first have to make a significant technical effort in order to be able to represent Netflix effectively. Instead of the end of the year, the offer could only start in the third quarter of 2023.
