The end of Mass Effect 3 was originally planned a little differently

Originally, Mass Effect 3 had a different ending that would also have paved the way for a fourth part.

That’s what Drew Karpyshyn, a former BioWare writer, revealed in a Reddit AMA.

What the original ending of Mass Effect 3 looked like

Mass Effect 3 has three different endings to choose from. Endings that caused some criticism at the time.

Would the original ending have been more satisfying? That’s hard to say. According to Karpyshyn, the door would have been wide open for a fourth part.

Other Mass Effect news:

“We had worked out some very rough ideas,” he writes. “Basically, it was about luring the Reapers through the mass portals and then blowing up the entire network to wipe them out. However, doing so would also destroy/damage the portals and isolate each galactic community from the others. But we We still had a lot of details to work out and there were some issues with that option, like what would we do in the next game.”

It remains unclear whether there would have been different variants in this case. A subsequent part could have dealt with the reconstruction of the mass portal network.

BioWare is currently working on Mass Effect 5, which is still in an early phase and, judging by previous teasers, is returning to the Milky Way.
