WoW: Dragonflight: The Azure Mountains in the preview
The Azure Mountains were the first area of the Dragon Isles presented to players in all its glory as part of the Alpha. It was clear then that Blizzard would put a lot of work into polishing the zone. After all, you only have one chance to make a first impression – and it should be as good as possible. The result is a zone that already looks so polished in alpha that it could be coming to the live servers tomorrow. Only the big story twists and many cinematics were withheld from us – so that we don’t get spoiled too much.
Blizzard has now compiled an official preview of what awaits you in the Azure Mountains, which of course we don’t want to withhold from you.
The Azure Mountains
Travel to the Azure Mountains, an ancient, frigid land where you will assist Kalecgos in his quest to venture into the Azure Archives and reclaim the Azure Oath.
A cool welcome
When you arrive at the Azure Mountains, you will be greeted by snowy peaks, mist-shrouded forests and an icy tundra. The Azure Mountains stretch from the coastal villages of the Tuskarr through a vast forested tundra to towering peaks covered in ice and snow. Majestic blue dragons once roamed these lands, but those days are long gone. Now several tribes of tuskarr, gnolls, and furbolg call these ancient lands home.

This zone was inspired in good part by Grizzly Hills, one of our favorite zones in Wrath of the Lich King, as well as the California Bay area with the coastal fog and redwoods. But there’s a lot more to discover in the Azure Mountains than just trees. You will find out more when you roam through this varied and wild landscape.

Much of the zone is characterized by diverse biomes covered in snow and ice, as well as vast frozen waterfalls, ice rivers, and mist-shrouded forests that lure eager heroes hungry for adventure.
The inhabitants of the Azure Mountains
On your adventures you will meet many residents of this snowy region who call the icy peaks, forests and coasts their home. The following beings await you on your journey.
tuskarr
Like their Northrend kin, the tuskarr of the Dragon Isles are fishermen and traders who inhabited the lands when blue dragons still ruled the skies of the Azure Mountains. Their tribes are widely scattered and willingly help Kalecgos.

gnolls
A savage clan of shamanistic gnolls who harness the power of decay for themselves, darkening their swampy homeland with foul thorns and roots. Don’t underestimate them.

furbolgs
The furbolg that inhabit the forests grapple with conflicts that have divided their clans. Many were drawn to the promise of bending the elements to their will.

How are you liking the Azure Mountains so far? Are you a fan of such large and extensive zones or do you prefer everything to be a bit more compact so that the travel distances are shorter? Thanks to the new dragon riding feature, that shouldn’t be that important. Which of the zones are you looking forward to the most?
