Fall Guys: Auto-purchase of items causes outcry

from Michael Miskulin
Fall Guys players recently reported that due to a bug in the game’s shop, they were automatically purchasing items they intended to preview. The issue prompted an outcry from Reddit users, as developer Mediatonic initially refused to issue a refund.

The issue occurred when players were previewing an item in the Fall Guys shop. Normally, players have to confirm their purchase. But now they reported that their in-game currency was accepted in exchange for the item without the player confirming it. Several players eventually reported the issue in Reddit threads. user u/DerpyDog24 released a video showing the problem in action. When the user clicked on an item to preview it, the purchase was automatically completed.

Fall Guys: Support initially denied the issue

The Reddit user u/ChunkyPeat published a response from Fall Guys player support, in which support denied that the item purchases were automatic. Rather, it was initially denied that it was even a problem on the part of the game. Reference was also made to the end user license agreement and a refund was refused. Some users then tried it directly through Epic, the new publisher of Fall Guys – but without success.

The tone of the email in particular angered gamers, with user u/TokiDokiPanic writing, “Yuck. The message they sent you is awful. This is a known bug but MT and Epic refuse to acknowledge its existence. ” Another user added, “This is not a very professional response from their customer service in my opinion. And how can you say that there is no such thing as a bug? So many people are having the same problem.”

Finally, there should be a happy ending after all: Mediatonic has released a statement via its social media accounts apologizing for the mistake and promising to honor all refund requests from June 21, 2022 for cosmetic items, until the problem is solved in the shop.
