While the character creation menu previously offered a choice of “male” or “female” body type options, Blizzard has removed this gendered language and replaced it with a simple choice between “body 1” and “body 2”. More and more games such as Halo Infinite, Elden Ring, Monster Hunter Rise or Starfield are offering these or similar-sounding options these days. These new formulations pop up loud WoWHead However, it only appears in two menus – in character creation and in the barbershop. Other, more complex adjustments could follow. According to dataminers, WoW players may soon be able to choose their preferred pronouns themselves. In addition, they could soon choose their preferred voice or voice color. How far-reaching these changes will be within the game during quests or raids cannot yet be fully clarified. After all, the game mostly avoids addressing the player directly. However, the new adjustments will probably not come to the fore.

Anyway, in the latest alpha build for WoW: Dragonflight, the pronoun formulations have been removed again. However, game director Ion Hazzikostas confirmed that the intention is to allow players to choose their voice. So this option will surely be implemented in the future.
