How to unlock the alternative ending

We would like to emphasize at this point that you must first complete all the main missions in the game and Faye’s Ashes should have scattered from the highest of all peaks. Only then do you travel to the starting area named wild forest return. Enter the hut where Kratos lived with Atreus and experience the secret ending of “God of War”. Head towards the bed with the protagonist and press the circle button in front of it. A cutscene will now begin that will present a very special guest.

First, father and son lie down on their beds and catch up on some well-deserved sleep. By the way, according to a short insertion, both are said to have slept for several years. We can at most speculate whether this is not at least a little exaggerated. Because despite the great effort that Kratos and Atreus have made, a few days should probably be more than enough. However, in a game like “God of War” we don’t want to put everything on the gold scales.

Who’s that knocking on the door?

The short nap of the two is abruptly interrupted by loud thunder. Lightning illuminates the small wooden shack and Kratos, wide awake, grabs his son, then grabs the ax and storms to the front door. After he rips them open with a terrifying battle cry, we see a person in black engulfed in lightning.

The camera zooms in on the mysterious figure and then rotates 180 degrees while remaining at waist height to the left of the person. There is a hammer attached here which is also surrounded by lightning and similar to that Leviathan Ax from Kratos has different engravings. By now, at the latest, it should be clear to everyone who the unwelcome visitor is.

If you haven’t figured it out yourself, get help. None other than the Germanic god and protector of Midgard stands before the hut of Kratos and Atreus. But what would you like? Thor of the two and why does he seem so angry?

Think about it for a moment and think back to the plot of “God of War”, and it becomes clear that this visit is hardly surprising. Finally, Kratos on his journey Magni and Modi, in Norse mythology the two sons of Thor and the giantess Jarnsaxa. So it’s no wonder that dad is anything but happy about it.

However, there was a clash between the two gods earlier in the game. Here you don’t get Thor personally, but only in the form of his hammer Mjolnir to face. But now the enraged father stands before Kratos in all his divinity, which could result in a fight of gigantic proportions. Because even the fight against the two sons was impressive and left no stone unturned. Dad certainly has a lot more on the box.

But before it can even get that far, there is another fade to black and we see Kratos and Atreus having a short conversation in the present, standing in the hut. It seems like it was all just a crazy dream. However, Atreus expresses concerns that this could be a glimpse into the future and that fimbulwinter comes to an end while Thor haunts the two. Kratos, on the other hand, swears that this is just a meaningless dream. Which of the two will be right?

What is the fimbul winter? The Fimbulwinter (from Old Norse Fimbulvetr, “huge winter”) is in Norse mythology the first of the four eschatological catastrophes that initiate the downfall of the gods, called Ragnarök. source
