Power Wash Simulator: Such a mess and still awesome
We are currently in the video game silly season. Some blockbusters were released in spring, and the next ones are waiting for us in autumn. That’s where small, fun games like the Power Wash Simulator come in handy. The game has been in Early Access on Steam since May 19, 2021 and the full version has been available on the download platform since July 14, 2022 as well as for Xbox Series X and Xbox One.
Since then, the reviews have risen Steam through the ceiling. The Kärcher simulator is currently extremely positive with over 20,000 reviews with 96 percent. A success that can no longer be taken away from the Futurelab team. Even Square Enix can be happy about the good ratings, after all the publisher has received more criticism than laurels in recent months with some titles such as Babylon’s Fall. In the last few days we have also gone to the fictional town of Muckingham and cleaned the local playground, various vehicles and much more from the dirt for our test.
The best shooter of the year?

Yes, you read that right. Basically, the Power Wash Simulator can be controlled like a first-person shooter. We move on the keyboard in the classic way with W, A, S and D, aim with the mouse and fire our water jet with the left or right mouse button. Right means continuous fire. water march!
And before anyone asks, our character also has sprinting, ducking, lying down and jumping in its repertoire. Certain orders can even be used to happily hop around in zero gravity. But more on that later.
Our goal is very simple, we have to clear various locations and objects from the dirt. We don’t know who or what left behind this dirt, but at times the whole thing looks as if a family of elephants had a fancy mud bath in the neighbor’s garden. Even the jungle camp candidates are not as dirty as some areas after two weeks without a shower. But hey, that’s what we’re here for now and clean everything sparkling clean.

Of course, we don’t do this just to pass the time. A little money should jump out of it. We can choose from the career mode in the main menu, in which we gradually carry out a wide variety of jobs.
Sometimes there’s a bungalow to clean, sometimes an off-road motorbike and also wacky things like a monster truck are on the agenda. We receive the missions via chat message from the residents of Muckingham and can switch between the existing orders at any time. The game basically saves permanently and so no progress is lost.
Since we have to schedule about an hour of game time for some orders, that’s also important, a nice change and provides more long-term motivation. If you want, you can also play a round of soccer, paint a little or chase hay bales. Just what they do in Muckingham. Occasionally we even learn short stories from the life of the Muckinghamer via text message.
The career mode can also be played cooperatively with a friend or a stranger from the world of the Internet. In other modes, up to six players can even take part in a session.
This is just as possible in the free game, in which we can carry out our orders from the career again, as in the special missions. Sometimes it goes beyond the borders of Muckingham.
Among other things, we have to free a steam locomotive stuck in the desert from dust and soot in this mode. Yes, the game even takes us to another planet. After all, NASA wants to introduce a clean Mars rover to the cute, green Martians. So this vehicle is also cleaned with high pressure – including weightlessness that is not quite physically correct. But a little floating and letting your soul dangle is already inside.
There is also a challenge mode available. It is either about cleaning everything sparkling clean in a given time or using only a limited amount of water. So a good change is guaranteed.
From rags to riches
As already mentioned, we don’t work for free. It’s not an easy task to make the various locations and especially small individual parts shine again. Luckily we get help in the form of a detailed list on which we can see the current cleanliness progress and dirt marking at the touch of a button so that we can better recognize even the smallest stains.
