LoL pro Faker is now suing toxic trolls for their hate comments
The esports scene is hot, not only because of the fierce competition, but also because of the haters in the audience. LoL star Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok has had enough – and is now suing the authors of worse and more regular hate mail.
South Korean esports group T1 (formerly SK Telecom T1) is one of the most successful organizations in the industry. In League of Legends, players record an unbelievable number of victories and they do it non-stop. The group owes its successes in part to stars like Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok. However, the leader of the team has fans who get carried away and post horrible hateful comments. But that should end now. Because Faker takes legal action against such comments.
This is not about harmless taunts, but according to the organization T1 “violent threats”that have been voiced since 2020. The trigger back then was Faker being benched for rookie Lee ‘Clozer’ Ju-hyeon. Since then, there has been “online harassment and violent threats” because of it. But now legal steps follow: Faker is suing several unknown persons through the legal team of T1.
curious: Language regulator in France wants to ban terms “e-sport” and “streamer”.
Cultural change in the esports sector as a goal
“T1 will file an official lawsuit against the John Does who continuously and repeatedly harassed Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok online”according to an official statement, according to InvenGlobal. “Despite T1’s repeated calls for those who leave malicious comments, we have found that these comments have not only become more frequent, but also more malicious. The player, the player’s family and everyone around them continue to suffer psychologically, so we had no choice but to file criminal charges against those who left such malicious online comments.” The goal of it all, according to T1’s legal team, is a change in esports, with a “healthy and mature” culture in the foreground.
