Eragon series apparently in the works at Disney+

from Sebastian Glanzer
Eragon fans are listening to this news, but maybe also with skepticism: According to insider information, an Eragon live-action series is to be created for Disney+. So far, adapting the Eragon books to the screen hasn’t worked so well.

As variety reported, the writers have sources at Disney+ claiming that an Eragon live-action TV series is currently in the works. The project is said to be in an early development phase. The Eragon series is said to be based on the novel series “The Inheritance Cycle” by Christopher Paolini, with “Eragon, Legacy of the Dragonriders” being the first of the four books in this series.

According to variety sources, Paolini will be a co-writer on the series. Executive producer is said to be Bert Salke, who operates under the Co-Lab 21 banner. 20th Television is set to produce the series. Salke is currently under an overall deal with Disney, which includes 20th TV.

Can an Eragon series make you forget the movie?

The Eragon book series with a total of four parts is a successful fantasy series worldwide. Since the first book was published in 2003, the books have sold over 40 million copies. The adaptation to the screen has not been so successful so far. In 2006, Eragon was filmed starring Ed Speleers as Eragon, Rachel Weisz as the voice of Saphira, Jeremy Irons as Brom, and John Malkovich as Galbatorix.

With a budget of $100 million and grossing $250 million at the box office, the Eragon film wasn’t a mega flop, but the reviews are extremely mixed. Fans were not happy with the implementation at all. The 2006 film received a rating of 5.1/10 on IMDb, 2 out of 5 stars on Moviepilot and only 1/12 out of 5 possible stars on Filmstarts. We’re curious when we’ll officially hear about the Eragon series on Disney+ for the first time and whether the series can get over the fans for the hitherto unsuccessful film.
