Pixel 7 & Pixel Foldable: That’s how powerful the cameras are

offer

A developer has managed to extract details about the cameras of the Pixel 7 and the Pixel Foldable from Google code. Apparently the Pixel 7 will get the same cameras as the Pixel 6, the only difference will probably be the selfie camera. By chance, the developer also discovered a previously unknown Google smartphone in the code.

Developer Kuba Wojciechowski posted longer thread on twitter, in which he shared his discoveries about the cameras of Google smartphones. Wojciechowski first explained that Google obfuscated the names of the sensors in the code to prevent leaks. However, the code also contains the IDs of the sensors, with which Wojciechowski was able to assign the sensors in a roundabout way.

Pixel 7: Many similarities to the Pixel 6

According to Wojciechowski, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro use the same main and ultra-wide sensors as the Pixel 6. These are an Isocell GN1 with a resolution of 50 megapixels and an IMX381 with a resolution of 12 megapixels.

On the other hand, there is an innovation with the Pixel 7 Pro. Here, Google is supposed to swap the Sony IMX586 sensor of the telephoto lens for the GM1 sensor from Samsung. At first glance, this is a strange decision, explains Wojciechowski, since both sensors offer similar performance. However, the developer suspects that using multiple sensors from the same manufacturer (Samsung) could lead to better image processing results.

Another innovation in the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro: A selfie camera with 11 megapixels is now to be used on the front – also from Samsung. With the predecessor, only the Pixel 6 Pro has 11 megapixels, the Pixel 6 has to make do with 8 megapixels.

These cameras are in the Pixel Foldable

Wojciechowski was able to discover the following camera information in the code for the upcoming Pixel Foldable. The main sensor should also be the GN1 sensor with 50 megapixels. Also on board are said to be a 12-megapixel IMX363 sensor, a 12-megapixel IMX368 sensor and an 8-megapixel IMX355 selfie sensor. It is currently still unclear whether both screens will have a selfie camera.

Another high-end Pixel 7 coming?

Surprisingly, Wojciechowski also discovered camera sensors for a device codenamed Lynx. Whether this is another high-end variant of the Pixel 7 or just an internal test device for a specific camera setup is uncertain.

The Lynx smartphone should also use an Isocell GN1 sensor for the main camera. The second sensor is an IMX787 with 64 megapixels. It is not clear for what purpose the sensor is used, but Wojciechowski suspects that it could be used with the telephoto lens. The selfie sensor is an IMX712 with a resolution of 13 megapixels.
