Rings of Power: Disappointed with the trailer? Here's the full blast of Lord of the Rings

Many Middle-earth fans have long been looking forward to finally seeing new stories from the Middle-earth universe. On September 2, 2022, the time has finally come and Rings of Power celebrates its release on Amazon Prime Video. However, the high spirits of many fans have already diminished a bit in view of the recently released trailer. The criticisms of it are manifold – from the low production standards to the choice of actors, hardly a stone is left unturned in advance. The increased use of CGI has also been criticized. Finally, the Lord of the Rings trilogy was characterized by the good use of masks and backdrops instead of computer madness.

For those who prefer to remember the past nostalgically, we have selected a few things that will make the heart of every Lord of the Rings fan beat faster. But even those who are looking forward to the start of Rings of Power will find what they are looking for. Because what better way to bridge the waiting time than to watch the best trilogy of all time again?

Lord of the Rings to watch!

Incidentally, the new Rings of Power series appears exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. If you want to enjoy them from September 2nd, you will need a Prime subscription. The first month is free and then €7.99 per month is due – or €69 per year. This gives you countless films and series as well as free Amazon shipping.

  • Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring – The prelude to the greatest film trilogy ever seen on the big screen. I don’t think I need to say more than that.
  • Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers – For many fans, the middle part of the trilogy is the best of the three. The Battle of Helm’s Deep is still considered one of the best film battles of all time.
  • Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King – The grand finale of the trilogy. Huge battles alternate with emotional moments until, of course, the good wins in the end.
  • The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey – In the eyes of many fans, the Hobbit trilogy can’t quite keep up with the Lord of the Rings films. Nevertheless, the story about Bilbo Baggins is more than worth seeing.
  • The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – The unsung star of the film is neither a hobbit nor a dwarf nor an elf. Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug is arguably the best dragon imaginable.
  • The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies – The finale of the trilogy is probably the weakest of the three films. Still worthwhile for fans of Middle-earth and of course with a positive ending, even if not for all companions.
  • JRR Tolkien: Lord of Words, Lord of Worlds – If you want to delve deeper into the world created by JRR Tolkien, you should definitely check out this must-see documentary about the creator of almost everything we think of as fantasy today

Lord of the Rings to read

Whether the books or the films of the Middle-earth universe are better is a matter of great debate. When in doubt, everyone has to decide for themselves. Of course you have to read the books for that.

  • Lord of the Rings Collection – The bound anthology of the three books is not only a highlight when reading, but also looks great on the shelf.
  • Lord of the Rings Complete Edition – For those who only want to read, the much cheaper paperback version is also sufficient.
  • The Hobbit: Or there and back – The story of Bilbo Baggins and the dwarves on their way to reclaim their homeland. Originally written for his children, Tolkien later made many adjustments to break the impression of a purely children’s book.
  • The Simarillion – To delve deeper into the history of Middle-earth, there is the Simarillion. It tells the story from the creation of the world to the third age in which the hobbits live.

For those who don’t find the time to read for themselves, the books are also available as practical audio books. Whether driving, doing housework or just relaxing, audio books are slowly but surely outstripping normal books. By the way, all audio books can be heard on Audible.

Lord of the Rings for the wall and the shelf

As a fan of the stories, you may not only want to read the books regularly, but also put some of the elaborate replicas and memorabilia on the shelf or hang them on the wall. We have put together a few of the particularly great things for you.

  • Lord of the Rings: three-part mural – The three-part mural reflects the three parts of the books, each with a matching motif, with one motif merging into the other.
  • Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth – The battle for Helm’s Deep is presented in five individual parts as a total work of art.
  • Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring – Five individual images of different sizes combine to form the legendary wandering scene of the companions.
  • The Argonath Bookends – Of course, the Lord of the Rings books also want to be presented on the shelf in a manner befitting their status.
  • Lord of the Rings: Gimli – The figure of the dwarf is one of the most beautiful replicas that you can get in this price segment.
  • Lord of the Rings: Gandalf – The Wizard may not be quite as well crafted as the Dwarf, but it’s still an eye catcher.
  • Lord of the Rings: Aragorn – The strings also belong to the series of well-crafted figures.
  • Lord of the Rings: Ringwraith – now we are slowly getting into the areas where a purchase needs to be carefully considered. The figure is worth it though, even if the preview image looks gruesome.
  • Anduril, Flame of the West – Instead of a figurine, you can of course also hang Aragorn’s legendary, newly forged sword and wooden display on the wall.
  • Glamdring, the enemy hammer – Glamdring, Gandalf’s 127cm sword, is even more valuable than Anduril.
  • Sting, Glamdring & Orkrist – The letter openers in the Lord of the Rings design are a bit smaller but more practical. It contains three of the legendary swords of Middle-earth.

Lord of the Rings for hardcore fans!

In addition to all the usual memorabilia and fan articles, there are also things that normal mortals would never buy because they are simply far too expensive. But if you don’t just see Lord of the Rings as a fan, but also as a passion, you can access it here. We’re not saying we have any of those things at home… actually, we have two of them.

  • The one ring to rule them – Of course, the one ring of power must not be missing here. Made from 750 yellow gold, you have to pay a lot for the material alone. By the way, it’s also good as a wedding ring, if you want to enslave someone.
  • Gambling from Rohan – Figures that are as filigree and well made as Gamling are unfortunately very expensive. Whether it’s really worth it remains to be seen. But it looks amazing.
  • Gandalf Sculpture – A memorabilia can hardly be of higher quality than this bust of the magician. However, the price is correspondingly handsome.
  • Lord of the Rings: Gollum – Even more expensive and detailed is the statue of Gollum sitting on a rock in the depths of his lair. Definitely an eye-catcher on the shelf.
  • Lord of the Rings chess game – This fantastic looking and detailed chessboard has at least one more practical use… theoretically. Actually, the figures are far too beautiful to play with. So rather leave it on the shelf and play with a cheaper alternative.
