The PS5 is finally getting 1440p support - this means it for your TV and gaming monitor

Sony has announced a new beta update for the PS5. Finally there is support for 1440p (WQHD). This is a popular resolution among gamers that many have been requesting for the PS5.

Sony regularly introduces new functions and features for the PS5. With the latest beta update, WQHD support is finally being added.

While the Xbox Series X supports all common resolutions such as Full HD, WQHD, 4K and 8K, Sony lagged behind with its PS5. Because on the PS5 only Full HD, 4K and 8K was possible so far.

But that’s exactly what will change with the upcoming update for the PS5. In addition to some features, Sony has also presented WQHD resolution, which should come with the latest update for the PS5 (via blog.playstation.de)

WQHD is now one of the most popular resolutions when it comes to gaming monitors. That reports the GameStar in a survey about monitors. That’s why many gamers had asked for exactly that from Sony for the PS5.

WQHD support closes an important gap in gaming monitors

What is WQHD? WQHD is the designation for a specific display resolution and stands for “Wide Quad High Definition”. WQHD is between Full HD and 4K and offers significantly more pixels than Full HD. However, more pixels also means a greater load on the processor and graphics card.

This should be a reason to be happy, especially for many users who had bought a new gaming monitor for their gaming setup and were already using WQHD and also own a PS5. Because in the future you can use the native resolution of your monitor and don’t have to use the smaller Full HD.

Why should you use WQHD at all? 1440p looks much sharper and better resolved to the human eye and the reason behind it is simple. Because a WQHD monitor, with its resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, offers 78% more pixels than Full HD with its 1920 x 1080 pixels.

So if you currently have your PS5 connected to a WQHD monitor and are currently using the Full HD resolution, then you should definitely increase the resolution with the update. Because you benefit enormously from it, without it costing you anything.
