Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is so huge that we could cram the world of the predecessor into it five times

There’s a lot to do in Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

If you’re headed to conflict-ridden Ainos today, you’ve got plenty to do. Hours of play in a big world await you in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, the new JRPG from Monolith Soft. According to the development team, the world of the previous title would fit into the new game five times. In an interview they revealed a lot about the new JRPG.

Developers are fans of lots of content

It’s all about this: On the official Nintendo website Among others, producer Koh Kojima and director Tetsuya Takahashi answered questions about the new part of the series. It was also about the huge amount of content and the size of the world. As you can read in our game time article, you can spend up to 80 hours with the mammoth title.

In the interview, the developers admit that they both prefer to offer as much content as possible. The director explains how the actual amount of content comes about:

As a genre, RPGs require a certain amount of content and there is a minimum amount of content required to play them. I think [Xenoblade Chronicles 3] is the result of first ensuring the minimum quantity and then adding ‘I want to do this’ and ‘I want to do that’.

A lot of content does not necessarily always mean a lot and large areas, but the producer explains how the desire for a lot of content also affects the map in the Xenoblade Chronicles series in the following way:

A game allows you to freely explore the world to a certain extent. The areas that characters traverse need to be large and if there is a war going on there it is necessary to build a setting that also includes the people who usually live there and how they go about their daily lives. That’s why when we create all these things, size naturally increases.

In concrete terms, for Xenoblade Chronicles this meant that the world surpassed its predecessor by a lot. Kojima reports that he calculated that the walkable areas in this game are over five times larger than in the previous game.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 review

An ingenious role-playing game that exaggerates too often

With 86 points, the JRPG did really well for us. Among other things, tester Alex liked the tactically demanding combat system and the exciting story with clever social criticism and unexpected twists. He also liked the cutscenes. It was just a bit too much of a good thing, so the lengthy cinematics just disrupted the flow of the game.

Are you in the mood for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and do you appreciate large game worlds or don’t you really care as long as the amount of content is right?
