Amazon is one of the largest retailers for the PS5 in Europe. Now, for the first time, a detail has been changed during the sale. The purchase is now much more difficult.

This innovation was noted: At the Amazon drop on July 27 in the UK, the PS5 was suddenly no longer easy to buy, but only available by invitation. You had to submit a request to Amazon UK during the drop. With any luck, Amazon approved this request and sent out an invite. With this invitation you could then buy the PS5.

This invitation principle had already been tested in the USA a few weeks ago. It apparently worked there and now the innovation is also coming to Europe. Great Britain was the first country to introduce such a system in Europe.

Is it like this with every drop now? That is hard to say. The drops in Germany and France, held on the same day, were still working without an invite. So it could be that it was only tested once at a UK sale. The feature may now be gradually rolled out in all other countries. The next few weeks and drops will show whether the system will also be introduced in Germany.

These are the effects of the change: Should the PS5 only be available by invitation in the future, then it’s no longer about speed, it’s just about luck. If things go well, you’ll receive an invite on the first drop and you can order the PS5 hassle-free. If things go badly, you’ll wait months for an invite and won’t be able to influence the drop.

In the meantime, the sales on Amazon are also available for longer and longer. So you no longer have to be at the start in the first five minutes, it’s enough if you stop by in the first 20 minutes. A lot more potential buyers should be able to do that. The new principle of invitations could thus be superfluous. It remains to be seen what impact this system will have on future drops. In any case, many scalpers could be over-salted with it.
