Buy a graphics card: Average prices remain stable below the RRP

The website 3Dcenter.org announced that it would no longer continue its analysis of overprices in its tried and tested form, as AMD and Nvidia graphics cards have reached a stable price level below the RRP. AMD’s RDNA 2 GPUs are now on average 14 percent below US list price, compared to 9 percent for Nvidia. However, not all of the individual models are available below their RRP. But there are approximations.

Weak euro exchange rate and new generations influence price events

According to 3Dcenter, the weak euro/dollar exchange rate comes into play as a new factor influencing the price development, which makes the graphics cards more expensive in the euro pricing. 3Dcenter explains that additional deliveries are still coming in from the dealers at prices of the weak exchange rate, while stocks were bought at better times. This can be observed in the graphics cards at the lower performance end. While the price of the Geforce RTX 3050 has not changed compared to the previous analysis, the Radeon RX 6400 and 6500 XT have even become more expensive, although the trend is known to be going in the opposite direction.

The release and market launch of AMD’s and Nvidia’s new graphics card generations RDNA 3 (Radeon RX 7000) and Ada/Lovelace (Geforce RTX 4000) is also expected towards the end of the year, which also contributes to the fact that prices are changing. This is mostly in favor of the high-end models, which carry the highest price premiums and will be phased out first. A Radeon RX 6950 XT is meanwhile available at the list price of a Radeon RX 6900 XT (for 999 euros at Caseking). On the Nvidia side, a similar picture emerges: The Geforce RTX 3090 Ti is now below the RRP of the Geforce RTX 3090 (from 1,398 euros at Mindfactory) available.

In retrospect, it can be said that the graphics card market has finally relaxed since last year. If you think back to the first half of 2021, the range of graphics cards was so limited that you could hardly find listings for individual models. At the end of 2021/beginning of 2022, the price exaggeration for both RDNA-2 and Ampere cards was still 80 percent or more on average, based on the list price. So it took about half a year until this situation was completely reversed and graphics cards are available again at their RRP or below.
