Trainers in Pokémon GO have been asking for a new feature for years – Raid Tag shows how important this is

Arena Raid

Raid Day in Pokémon GO gave Trainers plenty of opportunities to complete battles against Hisui-Washakwil. But in the aftermath, a well-known topic comes up again: the lobby waiting.

What was that event? The Raid Day ran last Sunday and marked the debut of Hisui-Washakwil. The eagle Pokémon appeared on the arenas as a raid boss for three hours between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and could be challenged by the trainers.

In return, the game provided five additional free raid passes and there was also an increased Shiny chance and an XP bonus. In addition, Hisui-Washakwil debuted as a Tier 3 boss in the game. As a result, the eagle was pretty easy to defeat even by individual trainers with the right counterattacks.

Good arguments for three entertaining raid hours over the weekend. However, one factor bothered some trainers during the event: the boring wait in the lobby.

The start button for raids comes back into the conversation

That’s the problem: Nobody likes to queue. But that’s exactly what you have to do if you want to participate in a raid in Pokémon GO: You go into the arena, hand in your pass and then the lobby timer of 120 seconds starts.

That might not matter if you’re just completing an occasional raid. But with an event like the raid day, where you ideally run from arena to arena to complete several raids, this can be annoying.

There is no way to skip this timer. And that’s exactly what’s being discussed on reddit right now.

If you want to complete many raids, you have to wait again and again

What players say: User “JRE Seawolf” is known for his extensive PvP analysis and contributions to the Pokémon GO Hub site. Now, on the subreddit, he brings up a point that trainers have been debating for years: that Pokémon GO could really use a “Ready” button for raids (via reddit).

At least for level 1 and 3 raids that you could do alone, that would be interesting, says JRE Seawolf.

He also raised this with Michael Steranka, Pokémon GO’s live game director: “He said they discussed it internally and basically decided that they didn’t want to do it because they might not be doing it to players who were alone wanted to be able to see and join a raid with people in the lobby. Since we were all low-level at one point, I could understand that” (via reddit).

As an alternative, the user suggests a few ideas:

  • A “Ready” button exclusively for events such as the raid day
  • A shorter lobby timer for low tier raids
  • A ready button for private raid lobbies

In the comments, players discuss the still missing feature that many have been asking for for years.

  • “It’s something they could just do exclusively for private lobbies. I spent 50 minutes of the 3 hours in lobbies alone today,” says user “Topladluke96” (via reddit).
  • “If they want players to randomly stumble upon a lobby where people are waiting for a raid, they should make it easier to find a raid lobby where people are waiting,” criticized Icesooky (via reddit).
  • “One part is the inconvenience aspect for the player, but the other part is the societal impact. I’m not the flashiest guy, but when young men and women see me hanging down my street or in a park, I often get an irritated or alarmed look. I rarely do raids because I feel uncomfortable doing it,” says user “Hammeldown” (via reddit)

The topic of a raid button has come up again and again over the past few years. It was particularly noticeable in June 2021, when Pokémon GO brought a fairly comprehensive update for the raids. Players hoped for a start button – but in vain.

What do you think of the topic? Would you like a “Ready”, “Start” or “GO” button? Tell us in the comments!
