Before Ryzen 7000: Ironically, an AMD six-core has the biggest price reduction

An AMD sale under the motto Game On has been running for a good week to prepare for the launch of the first Ryzen 7000 CPUs. With the Ryzen 5000 CPUs that have been reduced in price, it is a relatively new entry-level six-core processor that stands out with the highest discount.

PCGH has already reported that AMD has presumably joined the ranks of sales campaigns in preparation for Ryzen 7000 and is playing out temporary offers in the Radeon RX 6000 and Ryzen 5000 areas via its partners under the motto Game on AMD. Ironically, the Ryzen 5 5600 is out of the ordinary.

Surprise by a relatively new six-core

In a PCGH analysis of the Ryzen 5000 prices, it was noticed that the more expensive processors in particular are up to 8 percent cheaper. The price of the eight-core Ryzen 7 5800X had dropped significantly, from the last stable 289 to 299 euros to currently 269 euros (Mind Factory). The 12-core Ryzen 9 5900X also offers a whopping price reduction: The stable 399 euros that you recently had to pay are offset by the best price from Mindfactory (369 euros – minus 8 percent) significantly below. There has been little movement among the cheaper CPUs – but there is one exception that we’ve overlooked so far.

In the CPU charts in the PCGH price comparison a CPU advanced to 5th place, which we had not previously had in the price check. We’re talking about the Ryzen 5 5600, which, together with the 5700X and the 5500, only started in April 2022. As a reminder: The Ryzen 5600 (PCGH test) without X is what the Ryzen 5700X is compared to the 5800X: The CPU clocks around 200 MHz lower under load (single and all core), but otherwise has the same under the hood to offer. A Ryzen 5600 also makes use of the new B2 stepping, offers 24 PCI Express 4.0 lanes and 32 MiByte L3 cache. No wonder why the performance is almost identical to the 5600X. The RRP is 199 euros.

And best of all: the six-core processor mentioned has experienced the largest percentage price reduction since the end of July. Were on 22.07. still 195 euros due, it is currently “only” still 155 euros (Mindfactory). That’s 40 euros or 20 percent less. No other AMD CPU has dropped in price in such a short time. The Ryzen 5 5000 is almost stable at 119 euroswhich stands for Ryzen 5 5600X at currently 189 euros. Those who are satisfied with a six-core processor currently have the best option here. For comparison: the also popular Intel Core i5-12400F is currently at 196 euros.

AMD’s Game-On promotion officially runs until Friday, August 5th. According to the press release, “selected” graphics cards from the Radeon RX 6000 series and desktop processors from the Ryzen 5000 series are on offer from partners such as Mindfactory, Caseking, Alternate, Arlt and Cyberport. We analyzed Radeon RX 6000 offers last week.
