Batgirl: Finished film by Warner Bros. suddenly pulped
Update from August 3, 2022: Okay, I guess no one was expecting that anymore… Although DC’s Batgirl film is already in the post-production phase and has already aired for test screenings, the complete release is scrapped. That’s right, the people at Warner Bros. got the project that according to the New York Post over 70 million dollars have already flowed and that has finished shooting have now been pulped. So to speak, just before the finish line!
Is the Batgirl movie just too bad?
According to studio insiders, that doesn’t even have anything to do with the quality of the film, but rather with Warner Bros leadership disapproving of the previously planned home release approach. They want DC movies to be blockbuster and in theaters. A Batgirl with a budget of $70 million ($90 million due to the effects of the pandemic) does not fit into this concept. If you count this film as a loss and save yourself potential marketing, you could end up having to pay so much less tax that it would be worthwhile. (via Variety)
The “small” project also relied on stars such as JK Simmons as Gordon and again Michael Keaton as Batman. The latter should also appear as a dark avenger in the upcoming Flash film, although it is unclear when the DC film about the fastest hero will be released. Repeat allegations of abuse and misconduct from star Ezra Miller overshadow everything else.
Update from 12/23/2021: The Batgirl cast continues to take shape. After the actors for roles like Batgirl himself, Commissioner Gordon or the villain Firefly, another elementary role is now certain for the comic character: Batman, the dark knight himself. According to an official announcement from Warner Bros., he will now be played by Michael Keaton – who previously played Bruce Wayne and his alter ego in the 1989 Tim Burton film Batman. Keaton has already been confirmed as a key character for the upcoming Flash movieaccordingly, Warner Bros. seems to want to focus more on this version of Batman in the DCEU than previously thought.

When are the next Batman movies coming out?
While the Batgirl film does not yet have an exact release date and will also appear directly on HBO Max (in Germany, probably Sky), Batman fans can look forward to March 2022 – then it will be released with Robert Pattinson another, own version in the form of The Batman. The aforementioned Flash film, in which Keaton will play the Dark Knight again for the first time, is scheduled for release in November 2022.
Original from 10/26/2021: The DCEU is curious: After the disappointing result of Justice League at the box office in 2017, the focus on a connected universe like Marvel has been significantly toned down. Movies like Aquaman, Shazam, Birds of Prey or even The Suicide Squad all work fairly independently and for the most part refrain from letting characters from the different strips meet. The Batman will even feature its own standalone universe, with new cast members for all of the familiar characters.

Cast of Batgirl – villain Firefly confirmed
But a new DCEU project is on the horizon, which at least relies on a well-known actor: In the HBO-exclusive film Batgirl is again JK Simmons appear as Commissioner Gordon (as in Justice League). Gordon’s daughter Barbara and Batgirl herself is by Leslie Grace played, who was last in the musical film In the Heights. Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who also directed Bad Boys for Life. And now there’s also the first villain casting. The pyromaniac Firefly is used by none other than Brendan Fraser played – the internet is very happy. Because many have Fraser in mind as a charming star from films like The Mummy.
The Brenaissance by Brendan Fraser
Fraser is nothing new to the DC Universe, having long played the constantly swearing Robotman on the HBO series Doom Patrol. The Hollywood actor was a big star in the 90s with films like The Mummy, The Devil or Eve and the Last Gentleman. Now the actor is celebrating his comeback after a long absence from major productions, the “Brenaissance” as many fans call it: Both director Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan) and director Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, The Irishman) have Fraser for each got her next movie, namely The Whale and Killers of the Flower Moon.
