Diablo Immortal: Provides a trend reversal in Blizzard's player numbers

The successful launch of Diablo Immortal ensures a noticeable trend reversal in Blizzard’s player numbers.

The number of players is currently at the same level as it was a little over a year ago, but sales fell year-on-year.

A permanent increase?

As of March 2022, the number of monthly active users in Blizzard games fell to around 22 million. Diablo Immortal helped the company get back to around 27 million users.

Which is still a long way from the former heyday. It was 35 million at the end of 2018, 32 million at the end of 2019 and 29 million at the end of 2020.

More Diablo Immortal news:

In any case, it’s the first increase in users in two years, so Blizzard can definitely count it as a success.

It remains to be seen how the numbers will develop in the future, Diablo Immortal was only recently released in China, for example.

Compared to a Call of Duty mobile, which gave Activision a boost of around 90 million monthly active users within a quarter of its launch, this of course seems tiny.

With the upcoming Overwatch 2, which will first enter Early Access in October 2022, and Diablo 4, which will follow in 2023, this trend reversal could well continue. Let’s wait and see.
