Attack on WoW’s major boosting communities – Discord servers closed for cheating

Boosting is a great way to earn gold in World of Warcraft. But in early 2022, developer Blizzard made rule changes that were intended to restrict “professional” boosting. Since after an initial drop everything was back to how it was before the change, someone has now taken matters into their own hands. It probably wasn’t Blizzard.

Boosting in World of Warcraft involves letting other players pull you through content to complete it faster. In WoW there are entire communities that specialize in boosting.

They collect gold for their services and have been able to earn a golden nose in the past. But at the beginning of 2022 there was (theoretically) an end to large-scale boosting activities. Developer Blizzard changed the rules and banned boosting.

However, boosting was not completely banned. If you want to offer boosting service on your server, you can continue to do so in the trade channel. It is important that you take part in the boosting run yourself.

However, large boosting communities offer their services on many WoW servers. However, the players who post the boosting offer in the channel are rarely or not at all involved in the boosting runs. Or the whole thing is organized directly outside of WoW – for example on Discord.

After the rule change, there was a decrease in boosting, but after a while everything went back to normal – as if the new rules didn’t exist.

Apparently someone didn’t want to put up with that. According to consistent player reports, Discord servers and Discord accounts associated with boosting communities have been banned.

However, this only affected EU communities. The Biggest Names Who Lost Their Discord Server:

• twilight
• nova
• dawn
• oblivion
• Sylvanas

The reason for the suspension is stated by Discord: “Your account has participated in the sale, promotion or distribution of cheats, hacks or cracked accounts” (via wowhead.com).

However, it was only banned on Discord – some servers and server admin accounts. The WoW accounts of the affected players are still active. In addition, there was no Discord ban in the US communities.

This suggests that developer Blizzard had nothing to do with the bans on Discord. The attack on the boosting community apparently came from somewhere else. At the moment, however, it is completely unclear what led to the bans.
