Controversial YouTuber fakes a call to the police - is actually handcuffed on the live stream

Young YouTuber Darren “IShowSpeed” Watkins (17) is known for controversy. In a stream he showed an alleged prank call to the police. Although it was said not to be real, police officers showed up and handcuffed him while he was still on the air. Because besides his prank call, someone else actually called the police.

Who is IShowSpeed?

  • The 17-year-old American is actually a talented shooter player, but he is best known for his loud nature and his controversy
  • A sexist freak caused a perma ban in Valorant and he barked at a little boy after betting him for money in Fortnite
  • He is very successful with this content: Since April 2021, his YouTube channel has grown from 100,000 subscribers to 10 million
  • Speed, as his fans call him, is hugely popular, especially with a younger audience

IShowSpeed is already permanently banned on Twitch. You can see in the video which 5 bans caused a lot of excitement on the streaming platform.

Streamer is handcuffed

That is known: In a short video about IShowSpeeds Youtube channel was released, the streamer can be seen being questioned by police officers in front of his house. His hands are handcuffed behind his back.

Watkins says he did nothing. His cameraman filming the scene remains calm. The streamer was probably swatted, but everything was fine. Then a police officer asks him to end the live stream.

What is swatting?
This is a dangerous trend that can sometimes be deadly. Viewers make an emergency call to the police and claim that a streamer poses a significant threat. The police then move out with a special task force (SWAT) and show up heavily armed to the streamers, which is then often recorded in the live stream.

Prank call spirals out of control

How come? In an Aug. 7 livestream, Watkins shows him dialing 911. This is the American emergency number. Misusing them for other purposes, such as prank calls, is a criminal offense.

However, it was later revealed that IShowSpeed didn’t call the real “911” at all, but rather a friend whose number he had saved as “911”.

Why is he dialing 911? Watkins says he wants to light his PlayStation 4 with a lighter. A similar action had ended in July with a fire brigade operation in his room. This time he wants to play it safe and ask if it’s a good idea.

What did the police say? The supposed policeman advises him not to set fire to the console inside his house. Watkins thanks him and says he’ll burn the PlayStation while he’s still on the line. Then chaos erupts.

Nothing more than a small flame can be seen, but Watkins suddenly starts screaming for help. He makes noises as if he could not breathe and begs the alleged police officer to send emergency services to his house.

After the call, Watkins then seems to get on his nerves. He tells his chat to stay calm and not make him nervous. If the police showed up, he’d just claim his little cousin called.

Then it continues the stream normally. He wanted to calm down and “chill”. A few minutes later, he flashes blue lights on his front door and claims the police showed up at his house.

After a short break, he clarifies his chat: everything is fine, the police are gone, his mother is taking care of everything and he doesn’t have to go to jail. But now he still has to break the PlayStation.

Together with his cameraman, who has now joined him, he wants to destroy the console. The stream ends after he successfully disassembles his PlayStation in the garden.

What happened between the two videos is not known. But apparently Watkins was actually swatted at the same time as his action and had the real police in the house.

Doubts about the authenticity of the recordings

Are the videos real? There are already discussions about this. Esports journalist Jake Lucky first posted the video of Watkins’ alleged arrest on Twitter. He wrote that the streamer was said to have been swatted.

The word “allegedly” caused anger among Watkins’ fans. The recordings would prove that there had been a police operation. Only the prank call to the police was not real. Watkins put a friend’s number on 911 and called them.

Twitch streamer Adin Ross is also said to have fallen victim to swatting a few days ago. He said he spoke to Watkins on the phone. on Twitter he confirmed that both he and Watkins were indeed swatted, but also reassured his fans that they are both fine.

Other users see the whole thing with skepticism and consider the recordings to be posed.

Apparently you can’t just make prank calls to the police and then maintain your credibility when they really come around.

The CEO of an e-sports organization also got into trouble with the police. However, it is said to have been a little more than a prank call, because the e-sports CEO is said to have been involved in drug trafficking for more than 33 million euros and is wanted by the police
