FIFA 22: Curious clip shows why some players believe in manipulation

“It can’t be right,” FIFA players think to themselves in some football simulation situations. Now a new clip shows off FIFA 22 perfect why so many FIFA players believe in the famous “scripting”.

One of the biggest FIFA myths is the so-called “scripting” or “momentum”. The theory is that EA intentionally manipulates the gameplay with a “dynamic difficulty adjustment” and ensures that at some point the leading player has no chance and actions and shots go wrong.

However, this has not been proven and the developer even regularly denies the use of such mechanisms.

What is this clip? The reddit user reclining_buddah (via reddit) released a video snippet showing Manuel Neuer trying to catch the ball in front of the goal line. The goalkeeper then collides with the opposing defender, causing him to fall and lose the ball.

In reality, the ball must now jump behind the line and thus into the goal. But in FIFA 22 you just can’t get the ball in the box. He defies all the rules of gravity, even gliding through Manuel Neuer to stay in the field.

This is what the community says: While some comments in the reddit thread assume “scripting”, others are of the opinion that they only saw a broken animation here. Some users actually see a manipulation of the game in this case.

However, there are also voices that have a plausible explanation for the phenomenon, such as Nuzter hoboman212:

People who call this scripting have no idea how games work. That was not a goal and the game registered it as not a goal. So an animation had to be shown without the ball crossing the net. Sometimes the animations look goofy, but there are no coincidences in a video game.

In fact, in video games, there is often a case where animations look flawed to show calculated results that don’t match the physics of the models. This creates “glitches”.

We asked EA how exactly such scenes come about. There is currently no answer.

What do you think? Is this an unfortunate animation or did the game just not want the ball to go in? Feel free to tell us in the comments!
