WoW: The slime mount drama – no mount for LFR players

WoW: The slime mount drama - should LFR players be allowed to earn the mount? (1)

With the fateful raids, the developers of WoW: Shadowlands have added a little treat for players in season 4. Completing the Shadowlands Raids of Destiny achievement (defeat all Shadowlands raid bosses in Destiny mode) will earn this Mount Jigglesworth Senior.

This mount is one of the special mounts for which the players could vote. In the end, the community decided on the Wandering Ancient, the other mounts of this contest will be brought into play in other ways, like now via the Fateful Raids. Shortly after the opening of the fateful raids, a real drama arose about the success.

Why the drama?

The success text for Shadowlands Destiny Raids was previously as follows: “Complete all three fated raids in Shadowlands Season 4”. Among the three raids listed, the sub-achievement said: “Defeat the following bosses on any difficulty while Sanctum of Domination is a Fated raid.”

Important detail: “Any difficulty”. So you should master all three raids, no matter the difficulty. With the release of Patch 9.2.7, the achievement text now states that the bosses must be defeated on Normal difficulty or higher. Why this leads to drama is obvious.

This excludes LFR players from the mount action. Although the normal mode hardly poses any challenges for reasonably well-equipped raids – especially after the raid affixes have turned out to be a simplification instead of aggravation – not every player has the time to look for a raid. In addition, there is the mentality of many players in the community: “You can only get into my normal raid group with HC clear, at least item level 290.”

Community Manager Kaivax is only making the situation worse

Naturally, LFR players then went on the barricades. Why should a part of the community be denied this particular mount, especially since it may no longer be available in the game after Shadowlands? Those who raid all the time may not understand the situation, but even without knowing specific numbers, LFR players make up the bulk of the community. All the more violent was the headwind, which in the official forum was caused by the Comment from a community manager became a hurricane.

When asked by a player if the slime mount can also be earned through the LFR, Kaivax replied, “No, that won’t be possible in Season 4. Personally, I’m hoping for the return of the Friendship Moose communities like us six years ago. Those were good times.”

He is alluding to the community campaign at the end of Warlords of Draenor, in which players received the mount for defeating the final boss Archimonde in Hellfire Citadel Guardian of the Grove got, which was then removed from the game. Communities offered to help players without a raid to get to the mount.

No comparison to the keeper of the grove from WoD

What the community manager intended as a nice throw-in is, on closer inspection, an own goal on several levels. The Warden of the Grove community drive was a cool drive that brought players together. But apart from the fact that this is the Kick-off for boosting communities was and for the first time boosters could set a fixed price for things like “Defeat Boss XY for reward Z” in connection with the WoW token for real money introduced in this expansion, of course you can’t compare the two achievements.
