Compared to the hardware of the predecessor, little has changed in the Galaxy Z Fold4. Instead of a Snapdragon 888, the current Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 now provides computing power. Samsung has also replaced the Z Fold3’s 12-megapixel main camera with a 50-megapixel camera. However, the Galaxy Z Fold4 offers significantly more functions and possibilities for multitasking.

Samsung describes the foldable as a “PC for your pocket”, with which multitasking should work easier than ever before. A new taskbar will allow users to quickly switch between favorite and recently opened apps. Applications can easily go from full-screen to pop-up windows, and splitting the screen in half for more efficient multitasking is even easier. Android 12L, a special version of Android for devices with large screens, ensures that apps are in the correct format no matter which display they are open on. Of course, the Galaxy Z Fold4 is again compatible with the S Pen – but only with the main display.

Samsung has also improved the robustness of the Galaxy Z Fold4. The sensitive display and the back are protected with Gorilla Glass Victus+. The display is said to be 45 percent more resistant than that of its predecessor. Furthermore, the foldable is water-resistant according to IPX8.

The changes to the hardware of the Galaxy Z Flip4 are also limited. New are the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and the larger battery, which now offers a capacity of 3,700 mAh. The rest of the hardware remains largely untouched. The Galaxy Z Flip4 focuses on individuality, the FlexCam mode in a half-opened state and “a completely different mobile experience than [bei] Smartphones without a folding mechanism”.

The options for customizing the Galaxy Z Flip4 are already reflected in the color selection. In addition to the fixed color variants Bora Purple, Graphite, Pink Gold and Blue, the Bespoke Edition of the smartphone can also be used to combine colors on the front, back and frame. So are more than 70 color combinations possible. But the cover display also offers room for customization. Users can display clocks in different designs there or create their own backgrounds from images, GIFs and videos.

A big highlight of the Galaxy Z Flip4 is the FlexCam mode. This is activated when the smartphone is partially opened and enables hands-free videos and group selfies from different angles. The Meta group has already optimized its social media apps Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp for FlexCam mode. In addition, Samsung has improved the Quick Shot function, with which recordings can be made directly via the cover screen. The small display can also be used to make calls, reply to messages or unlock the car.

Samsung Galaxy Watch5 and Watch 5 Pro: Strong sensor technology for fitness and wellness

In addition to its two foldables, Samsung is also introducing two new smartwatch models this August: the Galaxy Watch5 and the Watch5 Pro. While the former is intended to accompany the user in everyday life and fitness, Samsung wants to appeal to ambitious athletes and outdoor fans with the more robust Watch5 Pro.

Both smartwatch models have a BioActive sensor that can be used to read out several health values. The sensor combines three different measurement data: the optical heart rate, electrical heart signal and bioelectrical impedance analysis. The watch can provide data on heart rate, blood oxygen levels and stress levels. Blood pressure measurements and ECG are also possible.

In addition, the Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro can also measure the user’s body composition and suggest personalized workouts. Sleep tracking is also offered. Here the sleep phases, the snoring behavior and the oxygen content in the blood are evaluated. Personalized sleep coaching helps users improve their sleep.

Both models feature durable sapphire crystal and longer battery life than their predecessors. The Watch5 offers a 13 percent larger battery than the Watch4, and the Watch5 Pro has a battery that is 60 percent larger. In addition to the longer battery life, the Pro variant also offers a robust titanium case and a new D-buckle sports bracelet. Thanks to the integrated GPS, the Watch5 Pro is suitable for recording hiking and running routes as well as cycling tours.

Both smartwatches will be available in stores from August 26th. The Galaxy Watch5 costs 299 euros in the 40 mm size in the Bluetooth version and 349 euros in the LTE version. The larger 44 mm edition costs 329 euros and 379 euros respectively. The Galaxy Watch5 Pro is only available with a 45mm display and costs 469 euros in the Bluetooth version and 519 euros in the LTE version.

Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro: Impressive sound

A new pair of in-ear headphones, the Galaxy Buds2 Pro, were also unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event. The second generation of Buds Pro offers a more compact design compared to its predecessor and now supports Hi-Fi 24bit audio, which ensures more dynamic and clearer sound. Thanks to their compact and ergonomic design, the Buds2 Pro are also suitable for sports. The active noise cancellation (ANC) ensures undisturbed music enjoyment, an ambient mode is also available.

The battery capacity of the Buds2 Pro is 61 mAh. According to Samsung, this should be enough for 5 hours of music with active noise cancellation or 8 hours of music without noise cancellation. With the charging case, which offers an additional capacity of 515 mAh, the runtime increases to 18 hours with ANC or 29 hours without the feature.

Furthermore, the Galaxy Buds2 Pro consist of 90 percent recycled materials, which makes them particularly environmentally friendly. The price of the in-ear headphones is 229 euros.
